CASE STUDY: Practical Action

Project Description:

We have been working with Practical Action to provide technical support and ongoing website maintenance for their Joomla based websites.

Practical Action are a UK based charity challenging poverty in developing countries using technology. In 2016 the charity worked with 1.7m people across South Asian, African and South American nations providing a range of engineering solutions to help communities break out of the cycle of poverty.

Joomla is an award winning open-access content management system, but, like all CMS platforms, it is only as good as the skills and knowledge of those who are operating it. Practical Action’s websites had been built by a previous web designer using the Joomla CMS, a platform that we’ve been specialising in since 2010. They initially came to Opace looking for an audit of their websites and further technical support.

Since completing the audit and impressing the client with our versatility, understanding of Joomla and general expertise, we are now developing a long-term relationship with the charity, providing ongoing technical support and website maintenance.

Opace support Practical Action’s open source websites. Over the time we have worked with them, they have demonstrated a wealth of technical knowledge and an ability to think around an issue to provide efficient solutions – as well as a friendly and responsive service.
