Rank in the Markets
International SEO - Rank in New Countries & Languages.
Visible Locally, Competitive Globally.
International SEO Agency Birmingham
Global Reach Starts With the Right Technical Foundation
Expanding into international markets means more than translating your content and hoping Google figures out which version to show. Search engines need clear signals: hreflang tags, geo-targeting configuration, correct URL structures and content written for each market, not just translated word-for-word. Our international SEO agency provides the technical architecture and content strategy that ensures your website ranks in the countries and languages you're targeting, without cannibalising your existing domestic performance.
We're based in Birmingham and work with businesses across the UK and globally. Our clients range from eCommerce brands expanding into European markets to B2B companies entering the US, Middle East and Asia-Pacific. Organic search drives 53% of all website traffic globally (BrightEdge), and for businesses targeting multiple languages or geographies, the additional opportunity is substantial, but only reachable with a technically sound international SEO foundation. We've managed international SEO services across ccTLD strategies, subdomain structures and subdirectory setups, each with different trade-offs depending on your brand, budget and market priorities. Whether you're targeting 2 new countries or 20, we build the SEO services to match your growth plan.

What our international SEO services cover
- Hreflang implementationCorrectly tagging every page with language and regional variants so Google serves the right version to the right audience. Hreflang errors are the single most common cause of international SEO failures.
- URL structure consultancyAdvising on ccTLDs, subdomains or subdirectories based on your brand strategy, budget and domain authority considerations. Each approach has trade-offs we help you navigate.
- Content localisationGoing beyond translation. We adapt content for local search behaviour, cultural references, measurement units, currencies and regulatory terminology. What works in the UK doesn't always work in Germany or Japan.
- Market-specific keyword researchSearch behaviour varies by country and language. Direct keyword translations are often wrong. We research what users in each target market actually search for and build content around those terms.
- Technical geo-targetingGoogle Search Console configuration, server-side signals and CDN setup to ensure search engines understand which content targets which market.
- International link buildingEarning backlinks from publications and websites in your target markets. Domain authority in one country doesn't automatically transfer to another. We build local link profiles for each market.
TECHNOLOGIES & PLATFORMS
Search Engine Optimisation

Hreflang implementation and multi-language site architecture
Hreflang is a simple concept with complex implementation. It tells search engines which language and regional variant of a page to show to which users. Get it right and your French customers see the French version, your German customers see the German version, and your UK rankings stay untouched. Get it wrong and Google ignores your international pages entirely, or worse, serves the wrong language version to the wrong country.
Common mistakes include self-referencing errors, missing return tags, incorrect language codes and orphaned hreflang entries that reference pages that no longer exist. We audit existing implementations for errors and build new ones from scratch when needed. For large sites with thousands of pages, we automate hreflang generation through XML sitemaps or HTTP headers rather than inline HTML tags. For smaller multilingual sites, we implement directly in the page templates. The method depends on your CMS, site size and how frequently content changes. Whichever approach we use, we monitor hreflang coverage reports in Search Console to catch issues before they affect rankings.
Market entry strategy and local search behaviour
Ranking in a new market requires more than technical setup. You need to understand how people in that market search. The terms a UK user types into Google are often completely different from what a German, French or Japanese user searches for, even when they want the same product. Direct translation of keywords misses colloquial terms, regional variations and entirely different search patterns.
We conduct native-language keyword research for each target market, working with local linguists and SEO specialists where needed. The research covers search volume, competition, intent and seasonal patterns specific to that country. From this, we build localised content strategies that target the terms real users actually type. We also analyse the competitive landscape in each market: who ranks, what content they produce and where the gaps are. This localised approach applies to everything from product descriptions on eCommerce sites to service pages for B2B companies entering new territories.

INTERNATIONAL SEO SERVICES UK
Why Businesses Trust Our International SEO
International SEO is one of the most technically demanding areas of search marketing. Hreflang errors, content duplication across regions, incorrect geo-targeting and poorly localised content can waste months of work and significant budget.
We specialise in getting the technical foundations right first, then building market-specific content and authority on top. Businesses that take shortcuts with international SEO usually end up paying twice: once for the failed attempt and again to fix it.
Technical precision
Hreflang, canonical tags, geo-targeting and URL structure implemented correctly from day one. We audit and fix common implementation errors that cause international pages to be ignored or cannibalised.
Native-language keyword research
We don't translate keywords. We research what users in each market actually search for, using native-language tools and local expertise. This is the difference between ranking and being invisible.
Market-specific link building
Domain authority in the UK doesn't automatically apply in Germany or France. We build local link profiles in each target market through regional publications, industry sites and local outreach.
Content localisation, not just translation
We adapt content for cultural context, local terminology, measurement standards and regional search behaviour. Localised content outperforms translated content in every market.
Multi-market experience
We've managed international SEO across Europe, North America, Middle East and Asia-Pacific. Each region has different search engines, user behaviours and competitive dynamics.
Ongoing monitoring and reporting
Country-specific ranking tracking, Search Console monitoring and hreflang validation. Monthly reports show performance by market so you can see where investment is paying off.
Why Choose Opace for International SEO?
Expanding into new markets is a significant investment. Choosing the right international SEO agency determines whether that investment delivers rankings and revenue or just expensive technical problems.
How do you handle markets you haven't worked in before?
We have a network of local SEO specialists and linguists in key markets. For countries outside our direct experience, we partner with in-market experts while managing strategy and technical implementation centrally.
Can you audit our existing international setup?
Yes. We frequently audit sites where international SEO has been set up incorrectly. Common issues include hreflang loops, missing return tags, content duplication, incorrect canonical chains and geo-targeting mismatches.
What CMS platforms do you work with?
WordPress with WPML or Polylang, Shopify Markets, Magento store views, headless CMS platforms and custom-built multilingual systems. The CMS determines how hreflang and content management are implemented.
Do you provide ongoing management or just setup?
Both. Some clients need a one-off technical setup and hreflang implementation. Others need ongoing international content strategy, link building and performance management. We scope based on your needs.
How do you handle right-to-left languages?
RTL languages like Arabic and Hebrew require specific CSS and layout adjustments alongside content localisation. We've implemented RTL-compatible international sites and understand the technical and cultural requirements.
Can you help us decide which markets to enter first?
Yes. We analyse search demand, competition levels, content investment required and potential ROI for each target market. This helps you prioritise markets where SEO investment will deliver the fastest returns.
How much do international SEO services cost?
Costs depend on the number of target markets, languages and the complexity of your current site architecture. A single-market expansion typically starts from £1,500-£2,000 per month. Multi-market programmes scale accordingly. Contact us for a proposal based on your specific expansion plans.
Should we use ccTLDs, subdomains or subdirectories?
Each approach has trade-offs. ccTLDs (.de, .fr, .es) send strong geo-targeting signals but require building domain authority from scratch. Subdirectories (/de/, /fr/) inherit your existing domain authority. Subdomains (de.example.com) sit in between. We recommend the best option based on your brand, budget and long-term plans. For further guidance, see W3C Internationalisation.
What is hreflang and why does it matter?
Hreflang is an HTML attribute that tells search engines which language and regional version of a page to serve to users in different locations. Without it, Google may serve your English pages to French users or cannibalise your UK rankings with your US content. Correct hreflang implementation is critical for international SEO.
Can we just translate our existing content?
Translation is a starting point, not a strategy. Direct translations often miss local search terms, cultural context and regional phrasing. We recommend content localisation: adapting content for each market's search behaviour, preferences and terminology rather than word-for-word translation.
How long does international SEO take to show results?
New market entry typically takes 4-8 months to see meaningful ranking improvements, depending on competition and domain authority in the target market. Markets where you're building from zero (new ccTLD, no local backlinks) take longer than markets where you're expanding an existing domain with subdirectories.
How do you handle content translation and localisation?
Yes. We collaborate with your in-house translators, external localisation agencies or native-language copywriters. We provide SEO briefs specifying target keywords, heading structures and optimisation requirements for each language version.
Can you help with local link building in other countries?
Yes. International link building requires earning backlinks from publications and websites in your target markets. We identify relevant local publications, industry sites and directories in each country and run outreach campaigns to build market-specific authority.
What about Google Search Console for international sites?
We configure Search Console properties for each target country, monitor hreflang coverage reports, track country-specific rankings and identify crawl or indexation issues specific to your international pages. Search Console data is central to our ongoing optimisation process. For further guidance, see W3C Internationalisation.
Does international SEO affect our existing UK rankings?
When implemented correctly, international SEO should not harm your UK rankings. Proper hreflang implementation tells Google to keep serving your UK pages to UK users while serving localised versions to other markets. Poor implementation, however, can cause cannibalisation, which is why technical accuracy is critical. For further guidance, see Google hreflang documentation.
Do you work with multilingual content management systems?
Content localisation goes beyond translation. We adapt messaging for local customs, humour, regulatory language, measurement units (metric vs imperial), currency formatting and cultural expectations around tone and formality. For example, marketing copy that works in the UK often feels too informal for German or Japanese audiences. We work with native-language specialists to ensure content resonates naturally in each market.
What reporting do you provide for international SEO campaigns?
Monthly reports break down performance by country and language: organic traffic, keyword rankings, hreflang coverage, indexation rates and backlink growth per market. We track country-level visibility separately so you can see which markets are delivering returns and where additional investment is needed.
Do you collaborate with international brands and startups?
Yes. We're based in Birmingham but work with businesses expanding internationally from anywhere in the UK and beyond. International SEO is managed entirely remotely, and we work across all time zones.
