Hreflang is a simple concept with complex implementation. It tells search engines which language and regional variant of a page to show to which users. Get it right and your French customers see the French version, your German customers see the German version, and your UK rankings stay untouched. Should we use ccTLDs, subdomains or subdirectories?

Each approach has trade-offs. ccTLDs (.de, .fr, .es) send strong geo-targeting signals but require building domain authority from scratch. Subdirectories (/de/, /fr/) inherit your existing domain authority. Subdomains (de.example.com) sit in between. We recommend the best option based on your brand, budget and long-term plans. What is hreflang and why does it matter?

Hreflang is an HTML attribute that tells search engines which language and regional version of a page to serve to users in different locations. Without it, Google may serve your English pages to French users or cannibalise your UK rankings with your US content. Correct hreflang implementation is critical for international SEO.

Can we just translate our existing content?

How do you handle content translation and localisation?

What about Google Search Console for international sites?
