The work
A clearer digital habitat for local wildlife
NatureSpot helps people discover, identify and record the wildlife of Leicestershire and Rutland. Its website is both a public resource and a working recording platform, bringing together species information, local places, maps, events, photography and community-submitted sightings.
The value was already there. The challenge was making that depth easier to enter, understand and explore.
NatureSpot asked Opace to refresh a long-standing website whose useful content had outgrown its presentation. On the former homepage, login, news, events, galleries, local selectors and donation messaging competed within narrow columns and long lists. New visitors had to work too hard to understand where to begin.
The redesign needed to make wildlife imagery a leading part of the experience, clarify the principal visitor journeys and create a more consistent interface across dense, database-fed pages. It also needed to work across mobile, standard desktop and larger screens without disrupting the specialist systems behind the site.
